SCHLENKERIA RAUCHBIER MARZEN

 

Oh Lordy, this is awful. It's beyond my comprehension that any brewery can stay alive for 600 years by specialising in Rauchbier.

The smell is off putting. Bad start. If you know the smell of new magazine ink, then this will be all too familiar. It smells like that smell x 15.

It tastes like that, too, but with smokiness in it. It's undrinkable.

Couldn't finish a glass, but we are hearty souls here. Most people couldn't finish a thimble of it.

Rauchbier is an acquired taste (they smoke the hops before they use them) and should give you varying degrees of bacon as well as smoke. Not this one. It's just smoke. So this is not a taste I'm likely to acquire.
