SAMUEL SMITH'S NUT BROWN ALE

Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale. Well, they had to bugger one up sooner or later.

The Yorkshire brewery's Nut Brown Ale isn't the best of the family members - not by a long shot.

Carries the family oatmeal initial hit but fades into a mix of that same oatmeal and a bitterness that seems like it's trying to be an IPA and not quite getting there.

There's also a heavy toasted flavour that can fall over into tasting burnt as the glass warms up, so I'm guessing that's the way they've dried their hops.

Not their best work, but not utter poo.

4/10
