REUTBERGER KLOSTER EXPORT HELL

Been driving in and around this Kloster brewery for years now without ever having one. It's a bit north of the beaut Lake Tegernsee (where, incidentally, one of Bavaria's very best breweries lies).

Sadly, it suffers for the comparison to Tegernsee, bier for bier. Where Tegernsee's Hell beer is one of the best lager beers in the world, the Reutberger monks must have been easier to please.

This one comes out of the bottle a touch flat and drinks so immediately sweet that you check the bottle again to see if you've grabbed a cristalweiss instead.

Then there comes an odd vinegar-like taste that holds down all the cereal flavour before a tiny trace of bitterness arrives late.

It's highly nuanced in its flavours alright, but most of the nuanced flavours aren't always the flavours you want in a Hell.
