8 WIRED C4 DOUBLE COFFEE BROWN ALE

8 Wired C4 Double Coffee Brown Ale. A lot of effort has gone into producing this rich and complex drink.

The malt bill of Gladfield Pale, Crystal, Munich, Caramalt, Chocolate and Oats is triggered by Wyeast 1272 American Ale II yeast and is hopped with Pacific Jade, NZ Cascade and Pacifica. To this is added Oromia coffee from the Yirgacheffe Region of Ethiopia.

It has a rich look to it and not surprisingly there is a deep roast coffee chocolate aroma with hints of fruit not just from the hops. Apparently this coffee, chosen with the assistance of Guy Griffith-Jones from C4 Coffee in Christchurch, is quite floral. Whatever they have done it works. It has a very dark hoppy flavour with a smooth mouthfeel and sweetish finish.

One disconcerting note is the packaging for the USA. If this continues we may all miss out on possibly the best dessert beer that I have tasted.
