AYINGER JAHRHUNDERT BIER

Ayinger Jahrundert Bier. About 25km from Munich, Ayinger isn't allowed to play in Munich's Oktoberfest (because it's not one of Munich's six city breweries), which is a shame.

The millions of drinkers who turn up there would absolutely enjoy the Jahrhundert bier. It's a world class helles style beer. Pours with a beautiful light copper colour and a long-lasting soft head.

Then it follows it up with some terrific malty flavours, not unlike semi-sweet biscuit dough. It's a touch sweeter than the native Munich beers (except maybe Augustiner), but finishes up with a strong bitter finish.

We had this in high winter, but it's really a better summer beer, so we'll revisit it then. Oh, do we have to?

9/10
