BAIRD BEER SURUGA BAY IMPERIAL IPA

Baird Beer Suruga Bay Imperial IPA. I was unimpressed by the Pale Ale from this brewer and although it might be a bit over carbonated the appearance was encouraging.

I had allowed this to warm an average European Lager’s worth and the aroma was grapefruit with a hint of piny hops. The first sip was hoppy resin and very bitter. Amongst the Japanese text I found 90BU and as with the Pale Ale they apparently use very little malt (I don’t know how they get the 7.5%ABV) and this results in a gritty, dusty, dry resinous feeling in the mouth.

It progressively worsened and I was left wondering what this brewery is trying to achieve in a lager dominated market.
