BALADIN WAYAN

Baladin Wayan. I keep trying Baladin beers in Italian restaurants, where ill-advised sommeliers think they're brillliant, and I keep wondering why they don't just make one brilliant beer to anchor the brand around first before getting into all the fancy stuff.

This reminded me of my own head conversation yet again. This is their Saisson beer, made to be sweet. And it is.

It's like drinking a shandy/radler made with post-mix syrup before it's mixed with soda water, rather than the lemonade/lemon squash that comes out at the end.

It should give you a hint that Baladin says it's only carrying 8.3 IBU. And that it's 5.8% ABV. And that it has 14.5% plato of sugary wort.

it's very, very sweet, with Baladin saying its recipe has a balance of nine spices, including five peppers. For all that, there are barely peppery hints on the tongue. Instead, it's just sweeeeeeet.

This is another beer Baladin had every reason to get right, even if a saisson isn't my cup of tea. But they haven't. Again. And it's not missing by much, again.

And they're not even cheap.

3/10
