BEAR REPUBLIC RACER 5 IPA

Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA. I’ve been meaning to try this one for a while as I’ve heard it’s a good drop.

A malt backbone comprising of American pale and crystal and is hopped quite heavily with Chinook, Cascade, Columbus and Centennial.

Appearance-wise, it’s quite light in colour and looks similar to a Little Creatures Pale Ale. Solid citrus, grapefruit and pine hop flavour with a smooth bitterness. There’s a little bit of a slick resinous mouthfeel. The hop flavour lingers leaving you wanting more.

In terms of style it reminds me of slightly less resinous version of Karl Strauss Tower 10 IPA or Ballast Point Big Eye IPA.

It’s 75 IBU but the relatively high alcohol content (7%) imparts a sweetness that balances it beautifully. A delicious American style IPA. Next time someone tries to tell you American beer is like sex in a canoe challenge them to a Racer 5.

9/10
