BLACK AND TANNIN

Black and Tannin. A collaboration between the Local Taphouse’s Ale Stars beer club, Hunter Brewing and Doctor’s Ordering Brewing and entered into the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS) 2013 where it was described as a ‘Shiraz Baltic Porter’.

It looks like a usual porter – black with a brown tinge and a creamy coffee-like head. However, more red than usual when held up to the light, courtesy of the Shiraz.

Nice chocolate and coffee aroma. The first thing you notice is the body is medium but it has a super smooth mouthfeel that rolls beautifully off the tongue. A well balanced chocolate and coffee flavour comes through. It has a smooth, velvety finish like a fine Shiraz with a lingering chocolate flavour. As it warms up you can start to detect a slight grape aroma.

This is a complex beer that is beautifully balanced. The perfect beer to sip while sitting in front of the fire on a wintery night.
