BLUE MOON BELGIAN WHITE WHEAT ALE

Blue Moon Belgian White Wheat Ale. This New York brewery is one of the U.S.'s booming brewers and has just launched another expansion.

On the strength of this, it's all-year beer, it's hard to understand why.

It's bad enough when Mexican beers demand a bit of lime or lemon in them, but then Blue Moon goes and asks for a slice of orange. A big slice.

It doesn't need the slice of orange because there's more than enough orange flavour in the beer itself. Yep, it follows the modern trend for American ales to do their level best to replicate citrus juices blended with beer.

The issue I have with it is that there's nothing on the front palate, a big thump of bitter orange towards the back and an aftertaste I'd rather not live through again.

No balance, not terribly beerish. Not for me.
