BROOKLYN EAST INDIA PALE ALE

Brooklyn East India Pale Ale. This started life as a summer seasonal beverage and got so popular they decided, in 1996, to keep it on the books full time.

And a good thing, too.

Brooklyn's stock offering is a bit of a non-favourite with me, over-rated and over-priced in most countries. This isn't like that.

This is an EIPA that runs to 6.9 percent and brewer, Garrett Oliver, uses English hops and malts to try to maintain his beer to the original style for beers to be sent to British troops in India.

You do worry initially that it's too much the now-typical American craft IPA, simply because it's so extraordinarly floral on the nose and even moreso when you pour it, with a strong white head, into a glass.

But it's not like that. It's beautifully balanced, with just the right undercurrent of citrus on the tongue and some slick malts and an awesome, but not overpowering bitterness at the finish.

Best Brooklyn I've ever had

8/10
