COOPERS EXTRA STRONG VINTAGE ALE 2013

Coopers Extra Strong Vintage Ale 2013. Since 1998 Coopers have been periodically releasing this strong ale but tweaking the recipe with each batch. The 2013 release is the 13th in the series. It contains some of my favourite hop varieties - Centennial, Chinook, Citra and well as Styrian Golding. Keeping with tradition it clocks in at 7.5% ABV. As usual, it’s a limited release with 30,000 cases to hit the shelves.

Cloudy honey colour with a fine detergent head. Moderate sweet bubblegum aroma. Coopers yeast flavour, pine, grapefruit and melon hop flavours. Tropical flavours from the Citra dominates. The Styrian Goldings hop adds a spicy and bubblegum flavour, similar to the kind Belgian yeast create. On the malt front the flavour is very similar to the Coopers Celebration Ale. The combination of flavours are quite similar to Hopdog’s American Werewolf In Belgian.

Overall, not bad but nothing special.

7/10
