CORONADO BREWING ISLANDER IPA

Coronado Brewing Islander IPA. No, it’s thankfully not a Spanish spin-off of Corona. The name refers to Coronado Island, San Diego County, California. This is a West Coast style IPA hopped with Cascade, Chinook and Columbus which clocks in around 75 IBU.

Honey coloured, fine head with a pine aroma and relatively high carbonation. Medium body with a moderately smooth mouthfeel, probably as a result of the 7% ABV.

Caramel malt base with a pine flavour leading into strong grapefruit flavour with quite an aggressive bitter finish. As it warms up a little it becomes less bitter. It’s not quite as resinous or as sickly sweet as a lot of high ABV IPAs. It leans more towards a bitter IPA.

8/10
