DINKELACKER CD HELLES

Dinkelacker CD Helles. I got in trouble from some people I work with for having shedloads of Bavarian beers and not many Swabian ones. Swabians are like that, having a reputation in Germany for two things: being tight with money and being paranoid that Bavaria gets something Swabia doesn't.

So in the interests of German harmony, here is the Stuttgart-based Dinkelacker's CD Helles. And maybe they wish I'd left Swabian beers alone.

The Helles is a style the Bavarians have been masters of for centuries. This is a limp-wristed thing by comparison.

The colour is about right, with a golden pour, but this bottle was headless from the word go. Maybe I scored a crook bottle, but it was very lightly gassed from the pour to the last sip, which gave it an oddly watery mouthfeel.

There was also the taste, which felt like they were going through a checklist of what flavours they needed to have, rather than brewing an organically holistic offering. The result of that was that some other oddball flavours snuck in, like a licorice hint and some citrus that a Helles just shouldn't have.

I'm going to rustle up another one, because this can't possibly be its correct gas level, but until then I'm only rating it...
