DOCTORS ORDERS INTRAVENOUS

Doctors Orders Intravenous. The latest creation from The Doc is a beer brewed for the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS) 2013.

It is also his Autumn seasonal release which he describes as a “Scottish Whiskey Barrel Aged Belgian Black IPA”. It’s based on his previous Spring 2012 release, Prescription 12 Elixir, which was a Rum barrel aged Belgian Black IPA. Somehow he managed to sourced used Scottish Whiskey barrels from the Nøgne Ø/Bridge Rd which they used in their ‘Aurora Borealis’ collaboration.

The result is a multi-dimensional beer that will impress even the most stubborn beer snob. It’s so fancy that it’s recommended to be served at 10-12 °C, not the sub-4°C most swill is served at.

It’s very dark but up to the light you can see a brown tinge. It has a creamy light brown head and has a nice dark malt aroma. The mouthfeel is smooth with chocolate and roasted malt flavour followed by a sweet bubblegum flavour, courtesy of the Belgian yeast and candi syrup.

It follows through with a dark chocolate and oak flavour, due to the barrel conditioning, with a smooth, solid bitter finish. This is a complex beast. This Doc is my kind of GP.
