DOWNTOWN BROWN ALE

Downtown Brown Ale. Brewed in California to the English brown ale formula, it had every right to be a disaster. It isn't.

It's a lovely thing, actually, It has a rich colour, a thick, luxuriant head and the sweet aroma of toasted malts and caramel.

It backs it up with a taste that feels like a porter on a diet, with coffee hints at the finish, malts and nuts everywhere else and some chocolate tones, too.

Very smooth, surprisingly complex sessionable beer. Well done.

7/10
