ETTALER KLOSTER EDEL HELLES

Ettaler Kloster Edel Helles. The normal rule of Germany is that the further north you get, the more you morph from Helles country to Pilsner country.

And the further you get into Pilsner country, the more crap the Helles is. This flips that right upside down.

It's a helles from an ancient (read: 1400s) abbey (or kloster) near Dortmund. And it's pretty darn drinkable.

It's a good, earthy, malty, honest lager with robust aromas, flavours and mouthfeel. It feels like a beer made for farmers and manual labourers and it tastes all the better for it.

8/10
