FERAL BREWING BARREL FERMENTED HOG (B.F.H)

Feral Brewing Barrel Fermented Hog (BFH). Barrel conditioning beer is becoming all the rage these days. In the past it was a novelty reserved for very special limited releases.  The $100 a bottle kind of beers.

Now barrel conditioning is seen as the next step to pimp your brew. The Feral Hop Hog has been the pin-up boy of craft beer in Australia. So can barrel conditioning make it even better?

It sure looks frothy with light a foamy head similarly to whipped egg whites with an oak aroma. Medium body with a  sudsy mouthfeel.

The first thing you taste is an oaky vanilla flavour followed by a repressed version of the original beer. It has kind of a soapy, pine needle flavour.

I’m surprised people rave about this barrel conditioned version. It's not a patch on the original. The sweet oaky vanilla flavours from the barrel conditioning clash with the pine hop flavour.

The barrel conditioning has actually tainted the flavour.
