FERAL BREWING BARRIQUE O’KARMA

Feral Brewing Barrique O'Karma. You’ve got to give it to Feral Brewing they come up with some cracker beer names.

This beer was first brewed for the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS) 2013. It’s a version of their Black IPA Karma Citra.

Primary fermentation was carried out in new French oak wine barriques. It was then transferred to stainless steel tanks and dry hopped with Citra hops. The barrel aging is designed to create a soft mouthfeel and impart a mild vanilla flavour.

Jet black with a creamy brown head. Moderate oak aroma. Smooth, luscious and frothy mouthfeel like a cappuccino. Rich dark chocolate flavour with a mild vanilla flavour from the barrel aging and an underlying citrus flavour. The hop bitterness keeps the sweetness in check.

This is a beer in which barrel aging adds an element rather then taking over.

A very nice dark chocolate dessert beer.

8/10
