FERAL BREWING NICE GUY, DUD ROOT

Feral Brewing Nice Guy, Dud Root. You can’t help but smile when you see the name of this beer with its cheesy vintage picture on the tap decal.

The name hints at what the brewers describe as a “middle of the road English Brown Ale”. I can’t seem to find any detail about this beer other than it’s 4.9% ABV.

Very dark brown it blocks out most of the light. Creamy head with a rich chocolate aroma. Smooth and luscious mouthfeel, medium body with low carbonation.

Roasted and chocolate malt flavour with enough  bitterness to keep it in check. As it warmed up it showed a black coffee-like acidity.

If Tooheys Old was a Holden Kingswood this would be the Statesman.

7/10
