FLY BY NIGHT BLACK IPA

Fly By Night Black IPA. A collaboration between Aussie brewers Two Birds Brewing and 3 Ravens Brewing and Kiwi brewers ParrotDog.

Brewed with Green hops and the strangely named Golden Naked Oats to apparently represent the sporting colours of Australia and NZ. Continuing the avian theme on the hop front is Falconer’s Flight, Phoenix and Tomahawk.

Dark, slight red tinge when held up to the light. Nice resiny, pine needle aroma. Starts with a pine and grapefruit hop flavour, followed by a chocolate malt flavour. Smooth, bitter finish, a little resinous with a chocolate / coffee aftertaste.

A nice bridge between hoppy IPA’s and malty dark ales. Proof you don’t have to be firmly in either camp to make a great tasting beer.

8/10
