FORST HELLER BOCK

Forst Heller Bock. Brewed in the shadow of the Alps (on the Italian side, in Merano), the Forst is also brewed in the shadow of the Austrian brewers, much less the Germans.

This is the Heller Bock, which is a bit more potent with a bit more bite in both ABV and flavour than the standard, beer chicken Forst lager.

When the weather is right (and it was when I had it in Merano, up in the bit of Italy where everybody speaks German by default), this goes down a treat. That's in the autumn when things are starting to chill off and the mountain tops turn red.

It's a pretty good thing, hiding the 7.5% ABV well and delivering the richness of straw colouring with a thin head and a thing mouthfeel.

It's a touch sweet initially, but also brings plenty of malt to the table and it's a nice thing to have alongside the richer Alpine flavours of meat, bread, cheese and potatoes.

6/10
