FUNK ESTATE FUNK’NSTEIN BIPA

Funk Estate Funk’nStein Black IPA. I’ve been drinking a few Black India Pale Ales lately and this does nothing to help my confusion between Black IPA and Hoppy Porter.

It looks like a porter and has an initial rich malty aroma with an undercurrent of grapefruit. The flavour in mainly roast malt with a pleasant bitter finish. It seems that a good BIPA requires loads of malt which lifts the ABV and cuts the bitterness to produce a well balanced full flavoured beer.

This one almost makes it. A pretty good effort from a bunch of Kiwi home brewers.
