GOLDEN BEAR BREWING CO. INDIA PEACH ALE

Golden Bear Brewing Company India Peach Ale. An IPA using Wai-iti and the new Waimea hops and sun ripened peaches with Chinook hops to add bite. When we visited the brewery last year I thoroughly enjoyed Jim Matanga’s beer and maybe he has earned the right to experiment.

The first pour from the champagne style bottle was a bit gassy, but it settled down to have a hoppy aroma with a funky undercurrent. The funkiness carried through to the taste and I was very unsure about this beer. As I kept sipping the hops melded with the fruitiness of the peaches and it was very rewarding. The overall impression of this beer would be enhanced by a stronger malt profile.

I may have been wary at the start of this beer, but by the end I was looking for another.
