GREEN FLASH BREWING PALATE WRECKER

Green Flash Brewing Palate Wrecker. This beer was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration hence the inclusion of Hamilton’s Ale in the name.

According to Green Flash it’s the most complicated West Coast IPA they have brewed. It uses around 6 pounds/barrel of Columbus and Centennial hops to create a hop monster clocking in at 149 IBU.

Opaque honey coloured with a fine detergent-like head. Sweet malt and citrus and pine hop aroma with soft carbonation. Full body, slick and resinous it slides off the tongue.

Starts with a caramel and slightly bready malt flavour followed by an all out a hop assault! Strong citrus, grapefruit, pine and little bit of earthy hop flavour with a strong alcohol and hop oil aftertaste. It starts with grapefruit, evolves to a resinous pine and finishes with a dry, puckering mouthfeel.

The malt flavour is a lot more pronounced than a lot of other IPAs. There’s a strong caramel malt flavour which when combined with the hop bitterness makes it sickly and bittersweet. The 9.5% ABV is quite numbing and the longneck racks up 4.9 standard drinks.

Be warned this is a heavy and challenging beer to drink. I prefer Green Flash’s West Coast IPA over this one.

Overall, hoppy, boozy and too sickly sweet for my wrecked palate.
