HACKER-PSCHORR MUNCHNER DUNKEL

Hacker-Pschorr Munchner Dunkel. The forgotten child of Munich's Big Six breweries, Hacker-Pschorr doesn't miss often and they haven't missed here.

Winter = Dunkels in Germany and that's good enough for me. Not as thick and heavy as a stout or a porter, the Hacker-Pschorr variety is very, very good.

This was outside in the "big fridge" (also known as the balcony) and just got better and better as it warmed up.

It smells like a cross between boiled sugar cane and porridge and it delivers a terrific head that stays all the way down.

It tastes like buttered toast with hints of malt, smatterings of honey and traces of bitterness right at the end to finish it off.

Great for sampling, not so filling you can't have a session on it. Just very, very good and perfectly balanced.

9/10
