HERETIC BREWING EVIL COUSIN

Heretic Brewing Evil Cousin. I thoroughly enjoyed Heretic’s Evil Twin so I thought I’d try one step up, Evil Cousin. This is a West Coast style Imperial IPA that comes in at 8% ABV and 100 IBU.

The description on the label is a bit of a contradiction. On the one hand it has a “light, easy drinking malt character”. On the hand the hop character is described as being on the “dank side; big, sticky, and aggressive.” Generally, if you’re going to have an ‘in-your-face’ hop bomb you are going to need a whole stack of malt to balance it.

Opaque honey colour with a head that screams hop oils. Dank, pine hop and caramel malt aroma. Smooth, full mouthfeel with moderated carbonation.

Sweet caramel malt, too sweet, followed by a dank and earthy resinous pine flavour.  It’s bittersweet and quite sickly.

Overall, not bad but not worth the hype.

7/10
