HOPDOG AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN BELGIUM

HopDog American Werewolf in Belgium. This Belgian IPA was Hopdog’s entry into the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS) 2013.

It conjures up an image of a ferocious beast rampaging through the forests of Belgium. The premise is a Belgian Strong Ale/Tripel doing battle with an aggressive American IPA.

The beast has a piney American hop aroma mixed with a sweet Belgian bubblegum and clove aroma. It’s got the body and yeasty goodness of a Belgian but the first thing you taste is pine and citrus hops. Then the dry and spicy aspects of the Belgian yeast kick in with a few funky ester flavours. It’s got quite an aggressive bitter finish which slaps you in the face after the sweeter Belgian flavours.

This beer tastes exactly how you would imagine. It works but it’s not as good as its counterparts on their own.
