HOPDOG CHILDREN OF DARKNESS

HopDog Children of Darkness. I’ve heard people rave about this is beer, so I ordered a pint of the hand-pumped variety at the Harts Pub in Sydney.

It has a foamy head, probably as it has been handpumped. The aroma is strange, similar to over ripe bananas.

The initial taste is permanent marker, acetone like, with a strong alcohol taste followed by a chocolate / coffee flavour with a really bitter finish. In nature this would be a warning sign of poison.

This is not going down well, the flavours clash and half way into the pint I’ve had enough.

If I didn’t know any better I would say it’s off.

A fellow Inner Sydney Brewers club member tried it the day before at Harts and had a similar experience. Perhaps cask conditioning has done something strange to this beer?

2/10
