ILLAWARRA BREWING APOCALYPSO

Illawarra Brewing Apocalypso. The brewers of this beer refer to it as a ‘Summer IPA’, despite being released in Autumn.

I think they are trying to suggest it’s a sessionable IPA rather than a potent hop bomb that a lot of American IPA’s can be.

At 51 IBU, it's bitter enough but not over the top. The hop bill includes Mosaic, Belma and Calypso, hence the beer name. There is supposed to be tropical fruit flavours – the likes of tangerines, citrus, grapefruit and lychee.

It's got a great aroma of grapefruit and pine. Medium body accompanying quite a strong grapefruit and pine flavour that lingers in your mouth.

It’s flavoursome yet refreshing. It’s not as resinous or bitter as other IPA’s with a similar hop flavour. But that’s the beauty of it, packed full of flavour but sessionable. This is a great Aussie made American style IPA.
