ILLAWARRA BREWING APOCALYPSO’S BIG BROTHER

Illawarra Brewing Apocalypso's Big Brother. The popularity of the Apocalypso IPA came as something of a surprise to the brewers at Illawarra Brewery. Initially released as a seasonal the demand was so great they decided to make it part of their regular range. Now they have decided to raise the bar a release a double IPA.

This is not simply a pimped version of the Apocalypso. The only similarity to the younger brother is the use of Calypso hop. The rest of the hop bill is different and includes El Dorado, Tomahawk (aka Columbus/Zeus) and Citra. At 8.5% and 84 IBU’s it packs a decent punch.

A hazy golden orange colour with a fine head, it sure looks tasty. Tropical fruit and pine aroma. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel.  The carbonation is soft with a steady stream of fine bubbles. Tropical fruit flavours from the Citra and pine from the Tomahawk.  It’s a nice mix of fruity and piney / resinous hops. As it warms up with becomes more piney and resinous.

If you’ve never tried a double IPA before jump on the bandwagon by trying this fine drop.
