ILLAWARRA BREWING BROWNISH BOMBER

Illawarra Brewing Brownish Bomber. These guys are fast becoming my favourite Aussie brewing company.

This time round they have created an American Brown Ale with a big dose of hops.  One of the key players is El Dorado - a variety which has recently become available in Australia.

Strangely, in the US, if a brown ale doesn’t meet the strict specifications of a ‘true’ brown ale it’s lumped in the oddly named category of Texas Brown Ale. This is one such beer.

It has a piney and tropical aroma with a medium body and relatively low carbonation.

From the first taste it’s hops – a strong grapefruit and pine flavour followed by a little bit of chocolate and an aggressive bitter finish. As it warms up it shows some resinous qualities.

It’s very hoppy – fans of black IPA’s would enjoy this.

8/10
