ILLAWARRA BREWING JEROME O.G.

Illawarra Brewing Jerome OG. This beer is something of an experiment. The boys at Illawarra Brewing produced a Shiraz barrel-aged Saison called French Kiss for the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS) 2013.

In preparation for this fine event they brewed an experimental trial batch in which they inoculated the French Kiss brew with a Lambic yeast culture. It’s been left to age in Shiraz barrel for over half a year. The result is Jerome O.G. -  a Lambic / Saison monster which is 6.5% ABV.

Murky, light brown colour with a fine head. Strong oaky and red wine aroma. Medium to thin body with moderate carbonation. Mild chocolate malt flavour leading into a funky, slightly spicy flavour you expect in a Saison. Dry and acidic finish from the Lambic yeast with a strong oak aftertaste from the barrel conditioning.

Too oaky and acidic for my palate.

4/10
