LA TRAPPE QUADRUPEL

La Trappe Quadrupel. An “Authentic Trappist Product”.

Trappist beers are usually associated with Belgium, but this one is confusing. In 1884 some monks from La Trappe Abbey in France founded an Abbey called … De Koningshoeven (King’s Farms) in the Netherlands and started brewing.

Today the Abbey still owns the equipment but the brewing is done by a company owned by the aptly named Bavaria Brewery (a Dutch company).

After all that, the beer wasn’t bad. The initial fizzy sweetness of a Golden Ale settled to a slightly sweet full bodied ale. It got better as it warmed, or maybe the 10% ABV affected my judgment.

I might try it again in winter and allow it to warm.
