LEFFE BLOND

Leffe Blond. This is a blond abbey beer. Not to be confused with the “blonde” term thrown about these days to describe watery, fizzy swill like the Pure Blonde.

The brewers of this beer say it’s best served at 5-6°C in a beer chalice. Yes that’s right, a beer chalice. When you order Leffe on tap it should be served in a proper Leffe glass. The Belgians take their beer very seriously and have all sorts of strange shaped glasses for particular beers. Google image search Kwak beer and you’ll see what I mean. The one in the picture is the 500ml chalice but they also make a girly 330ml size. Drinking from a beer chalice will make you feel like a king!

It’s quite pale in colour with a light creamy head that won’t die. Medium body with banana, bubblegum and a little clove flavour. It’s quite sweet but a lot of Belgian ales are. Smooth, easy drinking and a good introduction to Belgian beer.

6/10
