LITTLE CREATURES PALE ALE

Little Creatures Pale Ale. This beer is an icon of Australia’s craft beer industry.

It was one of the first craft beers and when it hit the market in 2000, people took notice. It was different, full of flavour and for many Aussies their first introduction to craft beer and the American Pale Ale style.

Inspired by American ales such as Bridgeport IPA and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, it adopts similar characteristics to them but has had enough tweaks to make it a beer of its own.

The recipe for this beer has changed over time. Originally it was brewed with EK Goldings for bittering and Cascade and Chinook for flavour and aroma. The previous head brewer Alex Troncoso revealed they substitute hop varieties depending on availability and price. One of these substitutions is believed to be Galaxy hops.

Starts with a mildly sweet biscuity malt flavour leading into a decent, but not overpowering, citrus and grapefruit hop flavour. It finishes with a lingering bitterness leaving you wanting more.  As it’s bottle conditioned, there is a slight bready / yeast flavour. It’s refreshing and tasty. It’s even better on tap!
