LORD NELSON SEASONAL ALE DOUBLE NELSON IPA

Lord Nelson Seasonal Ale Double Nelson IPA. Along with their six regular ales the Lord Nelson brews a rotating round of seasonal brews. This one is an American IPA with a bit of rye thrown in called Double Nelson.

‘Nelson’ is a term used in cricket when a score of 111 is reached. A double nelson is a score of 222 and a triple nelson a score of 333 and so on. Nothing to do with the beer but a tongue in cheek reference to the name of the brewery.

Apparently it uses ”double the amount of select hops than our regular pale ales”. It’s on the lighter end of the IPA spectrum as it’s only 5.2% ABV and 44 IBU.

Golden yellow colour, fine head, medium body and moderate carbonation. Tropical fruit aroma.

Mild citrus and a bit of tropical fruit flavour. It tastes like it could be Citra hops. There’s a slightly dry finish from the rye. It's refreshing and goes down well. It's a little lacking in hop flavour to be a typical IPA. It’s more of an American Pale ale in terms of style.
