MARY’S NEWTOWN SLAYER JUICE

Mary's Newtown Slayer Juice. Slaaaayer!!!
This beer is of course a nod to American thrash metal demi-gods Slayer. One of most the influential metal bands and credited as one of the "Big Four" metal acts along with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax.
This beer is available on tap at Mary’s Bar in Newtown, Sydney. Not the kind of place you’d expect to find many Slayer fans. It’s a hipster bar with an ex-Tetsuya’s chef in the kitchen who apparently makes some of the best burgers in Sydney. Someone behind the business is a Slayer fan as the bands trademark logo features on a couple of walls.
The smarmy guy behind the bar was clearly not a Slayer fan as he had a little tanty about the camera flash. I apologised and said I was just trying to get a picture of the decal. He whinged that I should turn the flash off. I would if it wasn't so pretentiously dark!
From what I could see in the dimly lit bat cave it’s a dark ale with a red tinge. It tastes like a freshly tapped keg Tooheys Old. The calibre of Tooheys Old you get in bowling clubs where the lines are regularly cleaned and the punters go through enough Tooheys Old that it has a high turn over and remains fresh. Chocolate malt flavour, medium body and carbonation with a roasted malt and moderately bitter finish. Much better than expected.
Proof that God listens to Slayer.
