MOUNTAIN GOAT/BROOKLYN HOPFWEIZENBOCK

Mountain Goat/Brooklyn Brewing Cross Breed Hopfweizenbock. A Crossbreed using Brooklyn Brewery’s first beer recipe (Brooklyn Weiss) with Melbourne water and Tasmanian Galaxy hops.

Typical wheat beer gassy head and banana dominated aroma. Although I can find no mention of it being unfiltered, it is very cloudy. Dark cloudy. The prominent banana aroma is tinged with fruity hops and an initial fizzy sweetness. The sweet banananess of the wheat is not quite overpowered by the Galaxy hops and the other malts. I assume that the Chocolate Malt adds the full rich mouthfeel. There is a slight bitter resinous feel to the finish and the 6.5% barely makes the Bock appellation.

This one grew on me. I am not a fan of wheat beer, but I could down a few of these.
