MURRAY'S BREWING BIG WEDNESDAY IPA

Murray's Big Wednesday IPA. Who hasn’t had a big Wednesday? It typically occurs when you have a very important engagement early on Thursday morning. However, I think the beer name is alluding to the 1978 surfing flick of the same name.

This beer is a little different to your usual IPA. It’s brewed without using the traditional bittering hop addition or crystal malts. New Zealand hop varieties Riwaka, Motueka and Pacifica were thrown in late in the boil to add a big hop punch. It’s a respectable 6% ABV.

Dirty, dark yellow with a white head. Tropical hop aroma. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Tropical hop flavour with a slightly bready and tobacco aftertaste. Despite the manky appearance it’s quite clean and refreshing. It has a moderately bitter finish.

I had a bottle of this once and thought it was disgusting as it tasted bready, bitter and lacking a decipherable hop flavour. However, on tap it tastes clean and fresh with plenty of hop flavour.

A good intro to kiwi hops.
