NORTH COAST BREWING RED SEAL ALE

North Coast Brewing Red Seal Ale. This is an American Amber Ale, which is similar to an American Pale Ale except it has more caramel flavour and is more malt driven than hop driven. At 42 IBU it’s moderately bitter for the style.

Honey amber colour, a fine detergent-like head with caramel malt and citrus aroma. Medium body and moderate carbonation.

Starts upfront with a caramel malt flavour followed by citrus / pine hop flavour and a moderately bitter finish. It’s like a Sierra Nevada Pale with a caramel flavour and a fuller body. As it’s been shipped from the US all the way to Australia it’s probably lost some flavour, particularly hop flavour, in transit.

7/10
