OETTINGER HELL

Oettinger Hell, or The Original Oettinger Hell.

This lager, from Germany's fourth biggest brewer, is one of those beers that has no massive regional following anywhere (unusual for Germany), but gets by with the odd supermarket surge.

Oettinger has five breweries scattered across Germany which support some regional brands, but The Original Oettinger is its nationwide brand. And, like most beers that attempt great volumes and world domination, it comes across as a bit generic.

I've had Oettingers that I liked a lot before. This one is passable beer chicken, with lots of grassy hints on the nose, little by way of bitterness and some sweet malt tastes. On the upside, it keeps its head through a glass fairly comfortably. And the label is nice.

It might be brewed under the Reinheitsgebot, but that doesn't make it brilliant. Just natural.

Oettinger also makes soft drinks/sodas and they've left a bit too much softness in this one.
