OLD MOUTERE NEUDORF ALE

Old Moutere Neudorf Ale. This beer is a Kiwi take on a German Altbier and is brewed by West Coast Brewing for New Zealand’s oldest pub, The old Moutere Inn, Upper Moutere, about half an hour west of Nelson on the South Island.

The beer had a rich, roast malt flavour with a hint of hop to overcome the usual sweetness of Kiwi beers. I am not sure how an Altbier should taste, but this was reminiscent of a good Tooheys Old.

An enjoyable lunchtime, with a few good beers and some excellent food.
