PAULANER PREMIUM PILSNER

Paulaner Premium Pilsner. Not just a pilsner, but a premium pilsner, so you just know it's not going to be good.

One of Munich's fabled Big Six brewers, Paulaner is more famous for its weiss and helles varieties, plus the big, big, big Salvator dark beer for winter.

But it takes a crack at the pilsner style, too. Sadly, it fits to both Beeriosity's rules of "Premium" and with the traditional enthusiasm German brewers have for pilsners.

It's good, without being great. It's medium bodied and a bit sweet - too sweet - even in the smell.

It delivers a lovely rich head, though, and the carbonation is pitch perfect - to the point of being the best part of the beer.

Otherwise, it's just too light, sweet and not quite crisp enough in the finish.

Workmanlike, rather than premium.

6/10
