PRICKLY MOSES CHARDONNAY IPA

Prickly Moses Chardonnay IPA. The idea of a beer with Chardonnay doesn’t really grab me. Particularly as Chardonnay is my least favourite type of white wine. I get flashbacks to tastings at vineyards.

The overly keen person at the cellar door insisting you try their Chardonnay because it’s not like those bright yellow, oaky numbers from the 80’s. Nup still don’t like it.

This beer was originally launched at the Sydney Craft Beer Week 2013. It was a collaboration between Head Brewer Luke Scott from Prickly Moses and Senior Winemaker at McWilliams Wines & Telltale Cider, Scott McWilliam. A blend of Chardonnay was added and it was hopped with Mosaic hops.

Golden yellow colour with a fine head. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Slight citrus and chalky aroma. Citrus hop flavour followed by cleansing white wine flavour and acidity. The malt softens the acidity of the Chardonnay. It’s strange having a white wine flavour with a beer mouthfeel. It’s hard to decipher the acidity from the wine and the bitterness from the hops.I was sceptical but it works.

Next time someone can’t decide between beer and wine this is the answer.
