PRICKLY MOSES TAILPIPE

Prickly Moses Tailpipe. When I saw the American 1950s car on the tap decal (with “Big Ass Brown Ale” written on it) I needed to look no further. “Don’t Knock It Until You’ve Tried It” is says underneath, laying down the challenge.

I am a fan of US style brown ales with their dark malt and new world hop flavours. Tailpipe is brewed with German Pilsner malt and a selection of roasted malts. Apparently it’s “aggressively hopped” with new world hops and comes in at 7.1% ABV. It was on handpump which I’m not really a fan of but it seems to work better with dark beers.

Dark brown colour with a fine head and sweet chocolate malt aroma.  Smooth mouthfeel but a little lacking in body and carbonation, most likely because it’s hand pumped.

Rich milk chocolate flavour with a mild coffee aftertaste. Can’t really taste the hops.

Definitely a dessert beer.  Not what I was expecting but not too shabby.

7/10
