RIVERSIDE BREWING 77 IPA

Riverside Brewing 77 IPA. Another warm day in Sydney, I swing by Harts Pub at The Rocks in Sydney for a refreshing ale.

Like a kid in a lolly shop I gaze at the tap list above the bar. The usual Rocks brewing suspects, a few guest beers have run dry but I smile when I see a Riverside Brewing beer.

I’ve heard good things about these guys but haven’t seen their beer anywhere before. I order a pint of the Seventy Seven IPA, it’s hellish expensive at $14 but I’m quietly confident it’s going to be worth it.

You can tell by its appearance it’s going to be good – dark copper, medium body with moderate carbonation. I take a sip. Malt and hops are well balanced, plenty of citrus and pine flavour with a crisp bitter finish.

The hop flavours linger in your mouth but it’s a good thing and you want more. It has all the piney, citrusy and resinous qualities of the Feral Hop Hog but somehow it’s not as heavy or oily.

Unlike other high percentage IPA’s there is no warm alcohol taste and it’s not cloyingly sweet like the Figjam IPA. It’s quite refreshing for a strong, hoppy beer. Big fan, I’m keen to check out other beers by Riverside.
