RUGENBRAU ALPENPERLE LAGER

Rugenbrau Alpenperle lager. I had this in downtown Interlaken, Switzerland, where it's brewed, so it had no excuses to call on if it wasn't briliant.

And it wasn't.

It pours nicely, with a very light colour and it tastes OK. It's very beer chicken, to be knocked back quickly after a hard day's skiing in winter or farming in summer.

There is no complexity, no nuance, just an anorexic slap of malt and very little bitterness. Ale fans will wonder why anybody would bother. Lager fans know there are much better things to be had just over the border in Germany.

Still, it's a reasonable session beer, just not an exceptional thing in any regard (except its choice of home town).

3/10
