SAN PAOLO PECAN

San Paolo Birrificio Pecan. This is San Paolo's version of a Cologne Kolsch, but they've made it with some pecan as well as everything else that goes into a Kolsch. Because the Germans don't know what they're doing, presumably.

Anyway, the pic on the left is what it was like about 20 minutes after I opened it, because for about 19 minutes, it looked like the pic on the right.

It's unfiltered, so it pours with a hazy ripe golden colour, though only a light head. That might be because it had fizzed plenty of energy into my kitchen sink in its quarter of an hour of over enthusiasm. Maybe this lost gas also accounted for the light lacing, too.

But the flavour was a bit flat, with some grassy tones and some lemon hints on the nose, followed by more of the same, with some light bitterness, on the tongue.

The flavour and the drinking isn't a deal breaker, because it's slightly interesting and perfectly adequate. It's just that it doesn't deliver enough for the money. Even in its home country, it's the same price as four Beer Chickens and that doesn't make any sense.
