SIERRA NEVADA DEVESTATION BLACK IPA

Sierra Nevada DevESTATEtion Black IPA. Each year Sierra Nevada create an Estate Ale, a home grown IPA style brewed with barley and fresh wet hops from their Chico estate (where the brewery is in Northern California; I would have thought too hot for hops, but what do I know). Last year Mother Nature destroyed their crop and rather than forego a year they improvised with some organic hops to make a Black IPA. Hence the DevESTATEtion.

Once I had given up my search for the Kevlar gloves, I took my life in my hands attacked the wax? seal with a sharp knife and opened the bottle. The pour was accompanied by a blast of hoppy dark chocolate and coffee. This has a rich resinous roast malt and chocolate flavour, a smooth mouthfeel and a decent hoppy bitter finish.

Even though I thoroughly enjoyed it, I will not be recommending this excellent beer that is not worth the ridiculous price that I paid for it.

8/10
